Emperor's Palace-Airport

Emperor's Palace looks like what you see on TV about Las Vegas. There are bright lights everywhere and the casino is huge. I went to play live poker there in their new poker room just off the side of the main casino. It is usually very busy and there are always a few tables of R5/R10 cash game and one maybe two R10/R20 games. Dealers are pretty fast and the room is very relaxing with big LCD screens showing sport most of the time on the walls. The players are pretty weak and the game is very sociable. Drinks are generally free at the tables but I have a feeling they have a certain tab for the evening and once that runs out you need to pay for your drinks. The parking facilities are very large and cost R10 for as long as you like.My favourite casino in JHB

Monte Casino

You can take the R10 parking receipt to the casino and get them to put R10 extra credit on your Montecasino gambling card.

Nullarbor Cottages-Magaliesburg

There are nine cottages on this small holding property and are either made of wood or bricks.I chose the Venus cottage for me and my girlfriend for the weekend. It is quite pricey at R700 per night and is self catering. The cottages are all equipped with a full kitchen with all appliances and cutlery and crockery. There is a spa bath, king size bed, and a fire place in each cottage. Really cool place. There is however, a crowing rooster that crows early in the morning (like 4am) and there is a dog that lives somewhere on the property that barked for an hour on the Friday night - this on a place where you can't bring your own pets.

Gourmet Grill-Montecasino

The burgers at this place are out of this world. I only had a standard burger but the monkey gland and the cheese burgers looked way better and mine was amazing. There is even a hamburger on the menu made with Moet and Chandon Champagne for R700! All other burgers are around R60 including a huge portion of either chips or stir fry which is really good too. Awesome atmosphere in the old Zenbu restaurant site

Not Bread Alone-Robindale

The best pie and pastry shop in Johannesburg. All sorts of quiches, cinnamon sticks, pies, rolls for sale and everything is full of filling and freshly made every single day. Saturdays are always extremely busy so best to get there early to avoid the rush. They can cater and cater on short notice as well with excellent service

Sugo Restaurant-Bryan Park Shopping Centre

A friend and I went to Sugo for breakfast in the Bryan Park Shopping Centre. We sat down and the friendly manager offered us some breakfast and coffee and, upon seeing the flattering picture of the Italian Scrambler, we ordered 2 with coffee. In the picture, there were 2 eggs, enough ciabatta bread to hold both eggs and a big portion of mince. For R36 I thought it was a bit expensive, but so is everything else on the menu.Coffee arrived and there was no milk. I asked for some. After 5 minutes it had not arrived, so I asked again. It was there 2 minutes later, delivered by a 3rd waiter. Then the food came. My god, 2 eggs, no problem. But the ciabatta bread slices I got in total was no bigger than two thirds the size of a normal slice of bread. My friends was more generous but also not like the picture! So we ordered more bread. It came and I got a sarcatic "I hope that will be enough now". And the mince? Well, the picture advertising the food makes it look like you get a fist size amount. In reality, you get 2 fingers worth of mince. So if you want a breakfast you can have anywhere else for R25, but want to pay R36 for it and deal with slow service, go to Sugo!!!

Texakhana Spur-The Zone @ Rosebank

The Prego Steak roll I ordered was supposed to be cooked medium but it came medium-well done. The chips and the onions rings were good as all Spurs are. The service was mediocre and getting the waiter to understand that we want the bill felt as if I was speaking another language. I love Spur a lot, but this one was not good.

Corner Surf Shop-Muizenberg

I emailed Corner Surf Shop for a quote on some downhill skateboarding products and got a response the next day. Further contact and organising the postage and sale of goods was seamless and they paid for half the postage to get up to Johannesburg. The goods were here 5 days later and I am very pleased with the service. The staff are very friendly on the phone and very helpful.

Pink Leather Lounge-Rosebank Mall

Similarly priced to most Thai restaurants in Johannesburg (expensive), but the food was rather underwhelming. Green vegetaraian curry, red chicken curry and thom ka gai were all quite insipid. Inside the restaurant is quite fun with Barbie and Ken in different sexual positions dangling from the roof with hand cuffs, leather whips and fetish gear filling up the other spaces. Don't expect friendly service either - once you have eaten expect to be rushed out even when there is no one else in the restaurant!

Mugg & Bean-Mall of Rosebank

Service is good and the food is awesome. This is the best Mugg &amp; Bean I have eaten at. The Goulash soup tastes like my mothers and is nice and thick with a generous portion of bread. The coffee is good and the booths down the steps make for an awesome experience.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 1px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 1px; "></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 1px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 1px; ">They provide:</span>Breakfasts, Sandwiches, Lunches, Meat dishes, Fish dishes, Beverages, Coffee, Deserts, Cakes, Dinners.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 1px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 1px; "></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 1px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 1px; ">Coffee shop and Restaurant with live music on the first and last Saturday of every month.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 1px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 1px; "></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 1px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 1px; "></span>

Nandos-Sandton City

I am now boycotting this place. Everytime you order a meal you have to ASK for one peri peri and tomato sauce sachet and then if you want any more even if you order more than one meal, you have to pay 50c each. But if I sit at a table, I can use the whole bottle provided? Is Nandos not known for their peri peri?Ordering is a mission, with 10 people in queue and if you're lucky 2 tills open with a bunch of tellers doing nothing but chatting to each other. Boxes of rice as part of meals often are half empty. The orders can take up to 25 minutes to come out of the kitchen at the best of times and try avoid this place entirely at lunch hour because you will wait 45 minutes for your food to be ready.

Chao Thai-Craighall Park

Chao Thai is located near the corner of Jan Smuts and Westminster Drive, Craighall Park.\ - just up the hill from The Colony centre.Service can be a bit slow. We waited for an hour for 7 starters. But when they came they were exceptional. After the starters the mains followed very quickly after and were also amazing. The inside is a lot like small restaurants in actual Thailand and the smells are amazing. The drab decor and the weird office chairs at the tables with vinyl table cloths are also JUST like the odd things you see in Thailand. The Tom Kha Ga tastes just like it does in Thailand and so does the Green Beef Curry.Bring own booze too. They sell soft drinks at R12 each. Most dishes range from R20 to R60 - this is very reasonable for the size of the portions and the fact you get rice with your dish unlike so many Thai restaraunts in JHB.
